Simple Organ Pipe Cactus Skeleton Bronze Cuff Bracelet

I made the mold used for this cuff a long time ago after a trip to southern Arizona where the Organ Pipe Cacti grow. These dramatic columnar cacti are related to the larger saguaros but they grow many slender stems from a single base, and aren’t as massive or tall. There’s only a small area in the US where they grow. The tall columns are supported by a hollow inner tube of a hard, woodlike material. These tubes are rather featureless on the outside, but when broken open they display a beautiful patterning. That’s what I used to make this bracelet.

I created it by impressing bronze metal clay into the mold and then carefully shaping and drying it. It was further refined and thinned to a consistent thickness, then fired in my kiln to sinter the metal. Afterward it was carefully cleaned and finished by hand in a process involving several steps and a lot of elbow grease, for bronze is very hard.

It’s a very handsome cuff and would be perfect for wearing every day. I have a similar bracelet in sterling silver clay, a bangle…my only one, and I wear it all the time. This is a medium to large size women’s cuff (see size info below). Before purchasing please make sure it will fit your arm properly because the metal must not be bent open or closed when you put it on, otherwise it will fatigue and break.

SIZE: Widest internal dimension is just over 2 1/2” across. The opening is just over 1” wide. Maximum width of the cuff is 3/8”.

CARE: Wash and wear with soap and water. The bronze will deepen in color over time. It can be brightened with steel wool or a jeweler’s polishing cloth.
