:: Obsidian Talisman ::

A beautiful cabochon of fine, clear obsidian from the famous Glass Buttes of Oregon lies at the heart of this necklace. Shaped by Gary B. Wilson of Tucson, it is a very clear grey with fine striations of black and translucent brown, but when worn it appears as mostly black. Metaphysically, obsidian is like a good friend, protecting you from negativity and helping to reveal hidden truths. Some also say it is grounding, but I feel the more clear types such as this one are more revelatory in nature. I’ve set it in a primitive frame of hammered sterling which is backless, allowing the energy of the stone to circulate freely into your body.

The rest of the piece is rustic sterling wirework accented with a couple of metal clay elements. I hammer all my wire on desert rock, shaping, oxidizing and finishing it by hand only as much as absolutely necessary to refine burs and rough areas. The rest of it carries the raw energy of the desert within. The chain links were all handmade one at a time. Below the obsidian the connecting links are wrapped wire with nailheads, the longest with a stack of vintage Burmese heishe rings for movement. The bronze metal clay ring was molded from weathered juniper wood found on Cedar Mesa in southern Utah, and the fine silver metal clay drop at the end was molded from weathered desert rosemarymint root found at White Sands in southern New Mexico.

For desert spirits and fearless souls…

SIZE: The chain is 19” long in total; the pendant assemblage is 10” long. The longest dimension of the obsidian cabochon is 1 3/8”

CARE: The patina on the metal will gradually deepen over time. You can allow it to do so or you can brighten the metal with a kitchen scrubbing pad, taking care to avoid the obsidian. A silver polishing cloth or pad can also be used, but this will result in a brighter shine.

PACKAGING: This necklace will arrive giftwrapped in hand-decorated, Earth-friendly packaging, wrapped inside an organic cotton pouch. Please reuse or recycle the wrappings.

SHIPPING: Your talisman will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Shipping is always free.
