This piece started with the oversized quartz bead that’s at its heart, an ice-clear partially polished, partially raw focal by Gary B. Wilson in Tucson, AZ. It has a flat back and rests very nicely just above your heart. The long pendant assembly that hangs below is made with handmade hammered sterling links. Two of my handmade bronze metal clay elements are on it, a crushed ring which was impressed with an ancient Southwestern corrugated potsherd, and a long tongue impressed with a rock from the Quebradas Breaks area of central New Mexico. A stack of beads is on one of the links which includes antique New Guinea shell currency, ancient walrus ivory from Alaska, 300 million year old fossil crinoid, and antique Nigerian shell.
The chain is all handmade from sterling silver which was hammered on desert rock, oxidized and hand finished.
It’s a really comfortable, easy to wear style; one of my favorite personal pieces is similar in proportion, and I find myself reaching for it most often. It’s also unusual for a necklace…definitely outside of the box. It has a lot of the desert in it, with ancient and wild energy, desert light, and a kind of feral quality.
For desert spirits and fearless souls…
SIZE: The neck chain is 17 3/4” long. The crystal pendant assemblage is 7/8” x 10 1/4”.
CARE: Rinse in cool water to clean and gently blot dry with a towel. To polish, I recommend steel wool to preserve the satiny shine, taking care to avoid the beads. Or you can use a silver polishing cloth for a brighter finish.
PACKAGING: This necklace will arrive giftwrapped in hand-decorated, Earth-friendly packaging, wrapped inside an organic cotton pouch. Please reuse or recycle the wrappings.
SHIPPING: Your talisman will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Shipping is always free.
