Every once in a while I like to do a pair of very detailed, delicate cluster earrings. They take quite a while to get right, but they’re so rich and interesting, I think. This pair is anchored by near-identical discs of ancient Bactrian glass from the Roman era and antique Papua New Guinea shell currency rings. Each has three dangles made with tiny quartz crystals, blister and keshi pearls, ancient shell and stone beads from Africa and Asia, antique shell from New Guinea, vintage Nigerian shell, Baltic amber, Bactrian glass, Czech artisan glass, bone, Mali clay, crinoid fossil, fossil dinosaur bone, Pre-contact South American shell, antique African quartz, and sandalwood. I think I got it all…they’re tiny elements, but each one is special.

These all hang on sterling links from triangular wire frames of silver hammered on desert rock. On the fronts are two metal clay discs I made, one of silver molded from 300 million year old New Mexico marine fossil rock, and one of bronze molded from Sonoran desert ironwood. The reverse sides each have coppery keshi pearls and vintage Nigerian shell.

For desert spirits and fearless souls…
