Baltic black amber is a remarkable material with a truly ancient soul. It is said to date from around 44 million years ago, but it is not actually a fossil! Fossils are the mineral replacement or imprint of organic material in stone; amber is the hardened resin of prehistoric conifer trees—not a replacement, but the original material itself. This gives it a very ancient vibration. You probably know that amber comes in many colors from clear yellow to pitch black. These pendants are a dark espresso brown and mostly opaque due to the presence of organic matter trapped within the resin, but if you hold them to the light they glow like old tortoiseshell. The softly polished pieces are broad but very flat, making the already lightweight amber even lighter.
Energetically, amber calms scattered energy. I love wearing chunks of it over my body when I know I’m going into a hectic or dissonant environment. It surrounds me with a gently grounding effect, a feeling of being buffered, and what I can only describe as a warm glow. I don’t have any amber earrings myself but I wonder what these would do…calm scattered thinking??
With them are two primitive squares of bronze, molded from limestone at the very edge of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. They carry the energy of this vast, contemplative and transcendent space. I made them by hand, fired them and they were hand finished. The ear wires and links are oxidized sterling which was hammered on desert rock.
They are a bit heavier than most earrings but still lightweight and comfortable. And amazing looking when worn!

SIZE: 3 1/2” long. One is 1” wide and the other is 1 1/4”.
CARE: Handle with care as amber is fragile. You may rinse the earrings with cool water to clean them and gently blot dry. The bronze will deepen in color over time. It can be brightened along with the silver with steel wool or a jeweler’s polishing cloth.
