:: Shiva Talisman ::
A rare treasure with antique silver elements from India, Ethiopia and Burma, this beautiful necklace emanates a sense of strength and power. The centerpiece is a large antique coin silver amulet from Rajasthan in north India depicting the god Shiva. These wonderful old pieces were made in abundance once upon a time, to be worn by villagers as protective amulets or to bestow the attributes of the god or goddess depicted. Each one was made by hammering a silver sheet into a mold—you can see how this was done on the reverse. Shiva amulets were worn for protection from negative energies and as a connection to his qualities of meditative calm, strength, focus, and stillness.
I had a few antique telsum from Ethiopia that looked good with this. These are also coin silver and were made sometime between the 17th and 18th centuries, and were worn to protect from the evil eye. Filling in the spaces on the wire above the triangles are small antique silver seed beads from Burma. The remaining beads are lovely bronze baroque pearls and round sterling silver beads, with a Balinese silver clasp.
You will absolutely love this piece. I very rarely say “wow!” when I try on a piece I just made, but this was one of them. It’s very dramatic, as well as comfortable and lightweight.
For desert spirits and fearless souls…
